2001 Peak District Relay

Every year, Sandhurst Joggers send a team of Southern Softies to compete in a Relay Race in the Peak District.

The race is up to 80K long, but was restricted a bit this year due to foot and mouth disease.

This year’s event, held on Saturday 15th September, was enjoyable as ever and some pictures follow.

Our runners were (Back row) Gareth Davis, Chris Kiddier, Carl Bradshaw, Janice Alves De Souza, Glyn Woodward

(Front Row) Pete Webster, Dave Dart (holding Adam, a future runner), Sue Dart, Wendy Leslie, Simon Bone

Paul Courtney also ran, but had fled before I took this picture. (I’m Andy Leslie, who just drove and took pictures.)

Where is Gareth? Which way is he coming from?

Ah, there he is! That’s a bloody long hill!

The weather was marvellous for running

The red dot is Pete Webster

Simon Bone starts his leg as Pete Webster finishes his. Behind Simon is a guy who ran the first three legs for his club because no-one was at each handover point! We have no idea who you are, but we salute you!

I think Wendy got cold, waiting for Paul Courtney. Wait! Here he comes!

Looking a wee bit tired as he finishes…. But we were all refreshed by the views!

These maps are what we work from….

Hathersage is a beautiful village in the Hope Valley where we stay.

So, you’re asking, where is Hathersage? See the big “X”? It’s there!

Most of us stay at and recommend the Little John Hotel, Hathersage, Tel: 01433 650225
